You will never maximize your potential in any area without coaching. It is impossible. You may be good. You may even be better than everyone else. But without outside input you will never be as good as you could be.
—Andy Stanley
Coaching Is:
Supporting you: Our relationship is all about your goals, learning, and growth. Changing old habits and thought patterns are difficult. I recognize these patterns and support your change.
Drawing you out and deepening reflections: You are the expert on your life, so I don't tell you what to do. Instead, I ask you open questions, listen actively, challenge you at times, help you think in new ways, and always remain supportive.
Helping you take action and celebrating progress: Each time we meet, you decide on 1-3 actions steps you will implement before the next time we meet. I acknowledge and celebrate whatever progress you make on the goals you set.
Coaching is not:
Therapy: Coaching and therapy share many techniques, like active listening, reflecting, use of questions and limited advice giving. What makes therapy and coaching different is therapy looks back, coaching looks forward.
Mentoring: Mentors are experts in a particular field who pass on their knowledge, advice, and encouragement to those wanting to learn from them. Mentors may use coaching techniques, but they usually act more as advisors and teachers.
Training: In coaching, you set the agenda and the goals; in training the trainer does this. Like mentors, trainers may use some coaching techniques, but in training change comes via the trainer.
